My wife and I looked at these types of machines when we were looking for a coffee maker.

In the end it just seemed like one of the most epic examples of needless consumerism. You spend $100-150 on a machine that can only make drinks if they come in special packages. Your consumer choice is reduced only to the brands of coffee that have signed a marketing deal with the machine manufacturer.

In the end, we bought a normal $50 machine that can make coffee from any distributor. With the savings, we bought a $20 bean grinder too.

Now, if you can get over that drawback, doubt anything can match the convenience of these single shot machines. I'd still consider a small one for my office out of sheer laziness since making a full pot of coffee for just myself is kinda gross :P
