What this women did was wrong. She shamed her husband and children(if any) as well as her parents. In her culture she did about the worst thing a women can do. She did this and risked a death sentence for what? A little afternoon delight?

Do I think she should be executed for her foolishness? Of course not. The punishment is overtly harsh just like many of the judgements we hear handed down in these Arab courts. But, I'm wondering why this particular judgement has caught the attention of the world press and this forum. This thread is sitting at thirteen pages already.

Iran like many other Muslims have the death penalty for blaspheme. This includes things like converting to another religion, being baptized, proclaiming that Jesus is God, or denying that there is a God. These executions are carried out regularly with little press coverage and little outrage.

Freedom of speech and freedom of religion are foundational rights. Adultery is a wrong. If Muslims should be protesting what is going on in the name of their religon I would think there is better places to start than defending a women who committed adultery.
