Ok, here is my take on this bridge and why many are ticked off.
And ok bigtime, yeah, it was provincial money. But when that money was given to the city of Calgary, and the decision by council was made to build this bridge, I think many Calgarians lost complete confidence in their council that they could identify the top infrastructure needs of the city. Calgary has been playing catch up and will continue playing catch up on its infrastucture needs for decades.
I don't think it is so much the actual bridge, or the design of the bridge, or even the architect chosen for the bridge, but more about the process and not identifying the top infrastructure needs of the city. It is seen as excess in times when infrastructure needs are many.
