Minnesota promised changes and changes were made.
After a mediocre start to the year the Wild have made two big deals over the weekend in an effort to change the complexion of the team.
In the first transaction, Petr Sykora, Alexei Yashin and PJ Axelsson were shipped out to Bean-town. Heading to Minny are Keith Tkachuk and Michael Handzus.
In the second deal, the Wild dealt Wade Redden and Dick Tarnstrom to the Rangers in exchange for Rob Blake and Chris Clark.
Farhall explained the moves.
“We were too soft. Its that simple. Up and down the lineup we had a bunch of skilled guys, but no one that would hit anybody or go into the corner to get the puck. After our dealings we think we are more experienced, tougher, meaner and bigger. We believe this combination of players will work much better for us – though obviously only time will tell”
Farhall admitted the trades do hurt the team’s depth and he will now focus on getting a new defenseman for the bottom pairing. The changes may not yet be complete.
