I don't think Russell is on the payroll anymore. By cutting him this season the Raiders only owed $3M at the start of the season rather than an additional $6M throughout the season.
Gallery, Huff, McFadden, Heyward-Bey, McClain and Asomough are all high 1st round selections that signed massive contracts. Asomough is also the highest paid corner in the league. Lechler and Janikowski are the highest paid punter and kicker in the league. Plus they used their franchise tag on Seymour (DT) which is one of the most expensive positions on the field.
Part of the reason the Raiders traded a first for Moss in 2005 and their 2011 for Seymour is Davis doesn't have enough cash to pay top 10 picks for 10 years in a row. Obviously the other option available to the Raiders to avoid high draft contracts is winning, but...
