Just had a chat with my neighbour, he's from Manchester. He's of the belief that this whole Rooney saga was completely manufactured by Ferguson and Wayne himself. Rooney was acting as Fergie's mouthpiece, stating that the club doesn't match his ambition, etc. It could have been code for Fergie wanting more money to spend on his squad and sending the message to the Glazers that they need to sort out the finances because quality players like Rooney aren't happy with the current situation.
I thought it sounded interesting and more to the point, plausible.
