I'm sure with the dollar hitting par again we are goingto see another rash of cross border shopping so we'll hear more on this, but during the last run this topic came up a lot and the rules (from the manufacturers) aren't the same for moving. RIV doesn't care either way.
You do have to check on warranties. Some companies have different ownership structures depending on the country of sale. Some car companies have models available in one country and not the other and that can be an issue. Not to mention dealerships nowadays have their own warranties they throw in that will not be transferable.

When we moved down to the states we could not bring our Nissan X-trail down. The X-trail was never available in the states and Nissan US would not recognize the car or model and therefore would not/could not provide the proper documentation to satisfy the the DOT and EPA. We ended up using it as a trade in literally 10 days before the move for a Volvo XC90 (and still we had issues...had to replace the instrument panel because the DOT requires the US ABS symbol as opposed to the Canadian one). Like most things I would imagine that coming into the Canada will be easier than going down to the States.
