I don't know about one of the very few. Most of the people I know who reside in the US but were born elsewhere identify with their homeland. They're not Hatian-Americans, they're Hatians etc. I don't know where people get the idea that it's so vastly different in the US than it is in Canada. I've lived in a couple very different parts of the US, and the experience is no different than living in Calgary in this regard.
