Dexter planned on killing Body on his normal "animal cleanup" route in an abandoned tourist building. However, as Dexter injected Boyd with the tranquilizer, Boyd fired his animal tranquilizer at Dexters chest, thus both were out unconscious on the road. The next scene shows that both are in an ambulance, clearing understanding what both men were going to do one another.
The next scene was one of the best I have seen since watching Dexter. Both are in a shared hospital rooms, eyeing one another, hoping to get out of the room and kill the other. Eventually the doctors leave, and Boyd runs to Dexters room, only to find him not there. Boyd escapes the hospital and heads home.
When Boyd returns, he feels an odd feeling in his house. Dexter is in there and begins to torment him by turning on his "Take It!" tapes that Boyd has relied on. Furthermore, he puts a lock of hair in Boyd's sight to acknowledge that Dexter knows what Boyd has done. Eventually Dexter injects Boyd in the neck and knocks him out.
Dexter then makes a quick kill room, and kills Boyd. However, as he stabs Boyd in the chest, he sees a face in the window. THis is Julia Stiles. She is clearly been wounded by Boyd and/or raped. Dexter opens the door with blood on his hands and the knife. Julia Stiles falls down bruised and bloodied into Dexter's arms, and he reassures her that he will not hurt her.
