I think some folks might be surprised by the broad base of support Naheed Nenshi is getting. Conventional polling methods and demographic tracking might not be capturing the whole story. Just something different happening now, and it's on the streets as well as cyberspace
Many people now in their 40s and 50s have spent the majority of their working career surrounded by digital technology and were early adapters and innovators on their own. Web-savvyiness is no longer the exclusive domain of the under 25 set. It's a rather outdated mindset.
Maybe it's just my social and professional circles, but I'm running into a pile of folks outright committed to voting Nenshi, and it runs across all sorts of economic and ideological lines. Civic politics is about potholes and dog parks -- nuts 'n' bolts stuff.
Just my observation. I think there's a seismic shift about to take place.
