One person misrepresented something the other said.
The other person is making sure people know that it is a misrepresentation, not what he actually said/meant.
The fact that there is a "feud" is really not an issue. Imagine someone came into your office and started ripping on you for something you didn't do, would you sit there and take it or explain they had incorrect facts? You disputing the statements wouldn't make you a bad guy, it just means you are not a doormat.
