I'm probably not the type you're looking for an answer from because I used the old one as streaming only, and because I use and iPad and my wife uses an iPhone, converting movies is just part of my daily routine now.
I bought the 32 gig apple tv a couple of years ago because I planned on streaming only and it worked wonderfully. There's very little different about the new one in my eyes other than it plays a few movies that my old one couldn't handle.
I do adore the pictures and lack of syncing though. Being able to call up any photo in my library is a giant plus and something that should have been enabled on the previous version. The lack of syncing is also a very welcome addition.
Netflix is solid imo. I prefer the layout over the PS3 or iPad version, but beyond that it's no different. For $99 I'm very happy, but then again I was happy when it was $250.
