How is this anything like donating blood? Or am I reading the wrong information?
Most bone marrow donation is done by a procedure called Apheresis, whereby peripheral (circulating) blood cells are harvested through a procedure very much like blood donation. Recovery time for the donor is negligible. In some cases the more invasive surgical procedure is used, but the first procedure is preferred. You can search for apheresis and PBSC for more info.

I have a good friend who is a hematologist and a big proponent of marrow donation-- in the worst case, a very small amount of discomfort can literally save a life. Go donate.
