Who is pathetic and lonely, and really just wants to be a rower having sex with what's-her-name. That's the motivation they gave him, which was pretty bold considering they could have just made his motivation money. Furthermore, they portray him as someone who destroys his only friendship, not because of creative differences, but to become richer. I really don't know how they could have made him more pathetic and stuck with the main story of "genius kid invents billion dollar website."
