Default GAME 12: BC Lions at STAMPEDERS

Last week was awful for the Stampeders in two aspects. First they blew the lead in the 4th quarter to Saskatchewan which stung. The second is they seem to lose at least 6 players for today's game due to injuries suffered in last week's game. I am just glad it is just a minor injuries and Stamps have players on the bench who can fill in the gap.

OFFENSE:

I thought Henry Burris and the gang did enough to win the game for the Stamps last week. Burris threw for 348 yards and most of the time that should be enough for the offense to win the game. One thing that I noticed last game was they sort of abandon the running game for a bit especially in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. When they used the running game again, Reynolds gained some good yardage and Cornish actually caught the ball by scrimmage but he did gained some good yardage as well.

On the receiving part, Ken-Yon Rambo caught for 116 yards and Nik Lewis for 84 yards. Burris was actually spreading the ball to all his receivers that night. The OLine were just average and they did enough to protect the QB.

DEFENSE:

The best D in the CFL actually had a brain-fart vs Saskatchewan especially the DBs. I am not sure if Milton Collins INT for a TD do them any good because after that, the DBs seems to care about padding the INT stats rather than stopping or making the Riders' receivers missed the catch. There are few instances that I saw Brandon Smith going after the INT and Saskatchewan ended up scoring a TD. Milton Collins, Dwight Anderson, Brandon Browner all went after the INT as well. Stamps' DB actually lost the game for the Stamps last week. Andy Fantuz were wide open all night and ended up catching for 255 yards. When Durant is not looking at Fantuz, he is looking at Dressler, who were also wide open a few times and he too could have caught over 200 yards if it wasn't for some drop balls. Because one unit (DB) were having a bad night, it affects the other part of the defense as well. I thought DLine were trying to pressure Durant a lot but because of the open receivers, they were too late to hit the QB.

Hopefully the defense goes back to basic against BC. Otherwise we will see Geroy Simon's stupid pose at the end zone a lot. I don't think we have to worry about that though because I got the feeling Stamps DB especially heard a lot from Chris Jones and Huf during practices this week.

SPECIAL TEAM:

At the beginning of the season the weakest link for the Special Team is the cover team. They were having problem stopping any returners. That changed though. I thought the cover team have been playing well in the past few games but the punt returner (Deon Murphy) struggles though. Returning the punt for 5 yards or so won't cut it. The only reason we gained more yardage on the punt return lately was because of the penalty. I got the feeling there is a reason why Huf gambled on signing Lumsden this week. I am sure once he dress for game, he will be returning punts as well.
K Rob Maver struggled the last few ganes but he was good against the Riders last week. I am hoping that boost his confidence a lot after that game. P Burke Dales is probably the most consistent special teamers so far this season.

ROSTER MOVES:

Maybe as a precautions, Stamps might not dress 6 players who got banged up last week. Receiver Nik Lewis might not play and he will replaced by Receiver Landan Talley. Talley will give Murphy a breather as well for returning punts. R John Forzani will aslo miss the game and will be replaced by veteran R Ryan Thelwell. With Nik Lewis out, Jabari Arthur will take his place as a starter. 3 or even 4 DLines are going to miss the game against BC as well. They are Tom Johnson, Robert McCune, Corey Mace and Mike Labinjo(questionable). That means Tearrius George, Miguel Robede and Mike Landry will take their place. I am not too concern about the replacement because DLine's depth are so good. George and Robede played as a starter before and Mike Landry played well on his one and only game vs Toronto this season.

BC Lions made some changes on their DLine as well inserting Richard Jones and Khalif Mitchell.

NOTABLE:

Joffrey Reynolds needs 47 yards to move past Dave Thelen into 9th place on the CFL all-time rushing. Reynolds will be honoured at halftime tonight. I am hoping Kelvin Anderson will be there as well to pass the torch.

This is also the first game BC's OLine Jesse Newman will play against the Stamps in Calgary. I can just see the fans' reaction on this guy. I am sure they will boo him.

I really think the Stamps will beat the Lions again. DLine need to pressure Printers all night and LB have to watch out for him running outside. DBs should not give Printer a look on any open receiver. Stick to the game plan and not worry about padding the individual stat. Stay away from dumb penalties, late hits and such.

GO STAMPS GO!!
