Played a neat game where there was a whole continent hidden for half the game because it was over ocean tiles, finally got there and there's barbarians there with Riflemen! I sent over one of my two Riflemen I had at the time with some lower units and they got wiped out by all the rifle wielding barbarians. wtf..
Artists are my new favorite great persons, they have a culture bomb ability where you set it off and all the tiles around them become part of your civ, as long as they are on or next to your territory and not on enemy territory. Did that to one civ last night eating up a bunch of his territory to get some resources.. He said "If you are trying to start a war you are doing a good job of it." lol.
Not sure I like the whole Civil Policies thing.. or rather I do like it, but it seemed to go slow, I had only unlocked like 6 or 7 options by the time I won a domination victory.. on an admittedly small map, but still.
The music is completely uninteresting and even annoying sometimes, glad I didn't pop for the version with the soundtrack.
Maybe I didn't get friendly enough with city states, but I never had the option to actually trade with them, and the friendship decayed extremely fast, so I just ignored them. "Stockholm wants a Great Engineer", good for Stockholm.
Not sure if it was because I started off at Chieftain, but still not overly impressed with the AI. Build up an army of tanks and mechanized infantry and artillery, park it off the border of a country (who definitely notices since they build up too, with their crossbowmen), contact them and demand 10 gold and they say no?
Not until I had taken all but one of their cities did they offer something for peace.
