Disappointed is pretty harsh, no? Or maybe naive?
I am not there yet but leaning to support McIvor because honestly who else is there if
- you are pretty happy with Calgary as is, as the city you grew up in or moved to
- you think city hall has a spending and priority issue more than a vision issue
- the only vision you need is one where your kids can safely play street hockey on the quiet road in the front, or play on the swings in the back.
I think it's pretty simple and deep rooted stuff that so far no one spoken credibly to, if at all. Higgins has dabbled in it but nothing to capture imagination and has no record. McIvor is hardly inspiring but at least has the Dr No record (a plus to many, even if it pisses some off).
I know there are (at least) a hundred or so CPers with a social agenda who won't like the assertion, but I think the average person just wants to take their kids to practice, and have 'The City' fade into the background. Be there, but be efficient and try and stay the heck out of the way.
If you think there are candidates that speak to that then be disappointed in them, because they've done a piss poor job of selling it so far.
Who knows. Still 4 weeks left.
