As long as players have a general idea of what kind of plays we have, then it shouldn't be too much of an issue if players play in different positions since they would know what to do in the position they're in for the game. The only thing that would need adjustment between plays and chemistry and feel for one another.
I think you're not giving NHL 11 much of a chance in adapting to the changes. I couldn't go back to NHL 10 just knowing how weak the AI was and acardish the game felt compare to 11. You can't play this version like it's NHL 10 and have to adapt your play style since it stresses having skill and playing realistically in order to be successful. There are of course a few hiccups, but some of those will be addressed in the upcoming patch. The biggest one being the auto skate has been confirmed to be resolved in the patch.

in my opinion nhl 11 is not less arcadish. i think it is more arcady. i think the ai is slightly better but not enough to make a difference. i feel that this years eashl is peewee style hockey where everyone just chases the puck and its just a matter of who comes out with the last bounce or takeaway. i feel this years game rewards teams that only have 2 or 3 forwards. it rewards the selfish puck hog players. i rarely see human D men. why? its easier to let the AI do it. same for goalies. so with this 1 dr crap, you just see a bunch of 2 and 3 man teams. and like i said last night it feels like nfl blitz on ice. if i try to hit someone either i crush them unrealistically or i miss totally and end up half way down the ice thanks to the awful physics of the game.
like i said, i just think this game is a step backwards. obviously lots of people love this years game, so not everyone will be happy.
and i feel i have given it a chance. i have played about 40 games so far. i think the default tuner was the best of the 3. last night didn't seem to have much of an impact on the crappy 2nd tuner they had. though it seemed a slight bit better.
