It made sense from the standpoint that it's better to take a guy like him surround him with a bad team and try to improve the team in those two years. Come next season, or whenever the NFL gets going if there is a lockout, the team will be in better shape for a young QB to come in, or for them to find a good veteran who comes available. Whereas say they drafted a guy like Sanchez with that #3 pick in 2009, they'd pretty much be paying him the same and he'd be ruined by now.

I think it's easier for a young guy to come to a team with a decent line and skill positions than eventually that guy can take over the team. Basically like whats happened with Flacco of the Ravens.
I have no doubt that Cassel will be cut next year (if they play) but still the Chargers aren't that great and wouldn't it be a shame to miss out on the AFC West title because the QB has a noodle arm?
