From the legal point of view, I think he will plead to sexual interference with a minor and the sexual assault charge will go away. Just a guess. I don't know, maybe because I'm not a parent (for 12 more weeks or so
), I just don't feel horrified by this - I just file it away under "stupid kids being stupid kids"... Yeah, it's inappropriate and should not happen, but I offer these thoughts:
1) girls generally mature a lot faster than boys
2) girls seem to "develop" a lot earlier these days
3) we don't know what the girl told the boy about her age when they met
I am surprised there are no "public mischief" type charges. I think this kid needs some sort of punishment, but I don't think he deserves the "rapist" label either, depending on the facts being what they seem of course.
