I was getting a ton of tripping/slashing penalties the first day, upped my stick checking to 90+ and I'm no longer getting penalties.
Hits require strength and body checking. If you are getting penalties while hitting, up discipline.
Game play is highly dependant upon your build this year I've found. You can't be a jack of all trades without a higher card (ie. legend) + boosts.
