My physics teacher used to correct me with the pronunciation of kilometer, explaining the roots of the parts of the word, kilo and meter. I then started pronouncing words using his rule to annoy him, eg. car-toh-grapher instead of car-taw-grapher.
My dictionary has both keelo and killo as correct.
