While true the powerhouse game just doesn't matter. Does more big wins give a conference more at large bids? ACC for example gets 7 teams? My other guess would be the big games are for television and the big teams don't mind doing that cause they get the tv money and there's really no risk. Duke isn't going to miss the tournament by losing to Gonzaga in mid-December.

Would that happen in football? Can't see teams risk playing powerhouses back-to-back and not making a 16 team tournament.
