The way I look at it is like this...I think they could go through both the Big east and the ACC without losing this year...both those conferences have an automatic bid to a BCS game and the ACC could see a team in the BCS championship should they go undefeated this year....so why wouldnt Boise deserve the same chance?
A playoff is the ONLY way that this argument will ever be resolved, but the moneygrubbers that run the big schools and make up the NCAA will never allow it so we are stuck with the worst system in organized sports to decide who is best in the country.
Cest la vie.

If they played in the Big East they'd have a good shot at winning the conference but I could easily see them tripping up in something like @South Florida, Pitt, @West Virginia, @ Cincy on back to back to back to back weeks (Syracuse's schedule this year) and losing one game, thus taking themselves out of the NC picture.
Same with the ACC. I'm sure they could win it, but there'd probably be a loss somewhere in a schedule like
@Clemson,
Florida State, @Duke,
North Carolina,@Virginia, Maryland,
@GT,
VT (Miami's schedule for the year). To further my point, it doesn't seem like any team from the ACC has come out of conference play undefeated in quite some time.
Throw in a couple good OOC games and it'd be a hell of alot more difficult for them to get into the NC game.
And with the playoff issue, yeah there's moneygrab big schools that won't allow it to go though, but there's also the fact that there's no time in the season to play 3-4 extra games, there'd still be people complaining about being left out, and no fan is gonna travel 3-5 times in as many weeks to watch their team play.
