I don't think it's particularly unusual, summer is winding down, kids are going back to school, demand is decreasing, etc. Mid to late September is often a good time to go to Europe, still warm enough, yet usually cheaper and less crowded.
Only the charter companies like Air Transat have been cheap to Europe this year, and only they seem to be the ones really dropping their fall fares.
The major carriers all still seem to be getting away with charging $1300-$1500 roundtrip after tax to the UK and back in September.
