The Democrats as a party have gone from Kennedy's famous "Ask not what your country can do for you but, what you can do for your country" to we have a right to own a house; We have a right to have an education; We have a right to health care; ect...
The Republicans have moved in that direction as well. They are probably more close to where the Democratic party was during Kennedy's time. They don't want Federal control of everything but, definately want Federal influence and money in all these areas.
