Or... the lowest common denominator. For me, music is very important in my daily life. So important, in fact, that I won't let a radio station, chart, industry award, or popular opinion, etc. make that decision for me as I simply prefer to be more involved in the hunt and acquisition of music. That's why most commercial radio doesn't turn my crank.
I know that sounds really pretentious, and I don't intend it to be. Some people have a different outlook on music. A friend of mine has admitted that he doesn't have the time or inclination to "find" music, and he's happy with what the radio dishes out for him. And that's OK - I don't hold it against him.
I only ridicule him and make jokes behind his back.
