Besides plasmas, it's not a good idea to transport LCDs lying flat also.
Whether a person is interested in 3D or not, I mentioned it as a possibility, so a buyer isn't walking into a situation without all the knowledge of the latest technology. I only watched it for a few minutes, golf and a movie but it was impressive and I'm interested. I've heard that some people get headaches from it and there really isn't much content out there yet but it is something to consider.
The best thing to do to decide if you want 120hz, 240hz etc. is to watch different TVs. Check out your friends TVs, go to a dealer, although with their bright lighting it's hard to make a decision. Watch them playing sports or movies or whatever you're interested in and than read reviews.
Also bargain, don't accept the list price as the final price. I wouldn't bother with any extended warranties as they are mostly a rip off, but YMMV. Also don't buy your HDMI or other cables from Future Shop etc. order them from MonoPrice.com.
