Here is how you do the one-time pass.
When you pass, the game switches to the guy who is likely to accept that pass.
Now, I think the logic is, the further away the guy is, the longer you hold the trigger. This distance also gives you an opportunity to charge that pass before it ends up on the tape of the other guy.
You can try it by pressing pass three times in a row after the initial pass. You guys will flick these crappy little passes all over and they'll probably be picked off.
I've done a one-touch pass for a one-timer. I didn't score, but doing it was neat.
