You can definitely do one-time passes, I do the all the time. Like the one last night where I pressed pass a second time by mistake and one time passed away from a completely empty net.

I definitely find that to be the case. It's pretty much the only way to find the guy at the back door without the pass being picked off, as well as hitting a stretch pass across the middle. Soft passes get picked off way easier.
