I don't think Childress told Farve that a heroic play was needed on 3rd down in fact the play was probably a conservative short pass just to pick up a handful of yards. Favre's initial read was covered, the play broke down and out of the pocket he should have just thrown the ball away. Instead he made a pass that they teach QB's never to attempt in football 101. Blaming Childress is ridiculous.

And I understand that mentality. But just going off the drive, and what happened on first down, they needed to take a shot at getting inside the 30. And that range of a kick is probably 60-65% good most of the time...i'd be wanting to increase my odds especially with how they were moving the ball.
Where did I say he told Favre to make a heroic play? Overtime is hit or miss in the NFL, and they were literally 8 yards away from being within range to win the game no doubt....and Favre knew that. Of course he is a gunslinger, but Childress knew that as well.
Taking the ball out of his hands when he had lead a flawless drive was the key mistake IMO.
