when the cursor is over top of an item, a little "X" shows up in the right hand side of that item. When it's over top of one of the game updates, you click the X, then it gives you the option of hiding that application.
Facebook would be useless without that feature, IMO. There's a few things that still show up that I would like to hide, but can't. That number is quite small now though.
