A few days ago I got it out and started mowing and it was running even rougher. I mowed for about 10 minutes and then there was a loud pop/bang and quite the smoke show. There was also a lot of oil leaking down on both sides of the engine. Once it cooled off I had a look at it and the gas tank and carb were completely separated from all the vibrations and the place where they bolt to the engine were completely sheared off. Is it worth getting it checked out to see if it's repairable?
It's your misfortune but I LOL'ed at the description.

Yeah, you pooped yourself by not checking the blade PDQ. The rest of it sounds like a train wreck.
