do your research and don't be afraid to ask a few tough questions.
MMA gyms are notorious for being full of:
a) gangs
b) wanna be gangs
c) guys who want to beat people up without getting charged and will take a cheap shot at you if given the chance.
A good MMA gym will not tolerate any of that crap. They are out there, but you really have to hunt around. You need an instructor who knows all the moves, but isn't going to show you the next move until you have competently learned the first one. It isn't supposed to be about the instructor showing off.
