I'm going to disagree with this.

I'm not going to begrudge anyone from liking a crappy band...hey, whatever makes you happy, but that doesn't mean there's no such thing as a crappy band. There's millions of people who love terrible films like Deuce Bigelow and Armageddon, but that doesn't make them any less of bloody awful movies. It's entirely possible to say objectively that a movie, tv show, or band is derivative, formulaic, and untalented regardless of how popular they are.
