I tend to find indie groups are crappy and not popular in mainstream for good reasons. I also find many, not all, people seem to like these types of groups because it is "cool" to like them. Not saying that is the case with people here but I do get tired of hearing people be condescending and act like they are better then me because they like some band that has only sold 20 records and I like a mainstream group.

Although there are a few indie bands that deserve some attention, the reason they arent mainstream is because their music...well...it sucks. I try very hard to keep an open mind regarding music and Nickleback doesnt deserve the crap that is heaved on their shoulders. For MANY years Canada had nothing but Anne Murray and old Guess Who songs played anywhere outside Canada. Now that we have many groups who have hit the mainstream successfully why would we knock them down? I prefer Nickleback to The Bare Naked Ladies, yet TBNL are quite popular as well. Any hate on for them?
There doesnt have to be some inate cerebral justification to listen to music, as long as it makes people want to sing and dance to it it will be successful. I think Nickleback has done that in spades with a standard riff that everyone knows simply by listening. Good on them for being successful AND Canadian!
