I think everyone is a little different in the way they react to withdrawals. I go to the states a lot and most times for over two weeks and I'm not stupid enough to sneak it down or ask when I'm down there (mostly Florida where 20g+ is a felony/5 years in prison) and I don't even notice it.
I mostly vaporize now (Thanks Neeper!) but back when I was 18-24 I smoked 5+ joints a day and decided one day to quit and did so for almost two years completely. I didn't have any need for the stuff after day one and didn't look back. I honestly felt like it became more of a habit of smoking the joint than an addiction or dependence on the drug itself.
If I had to or wanted to I could quit again tomorrow and honestly feel like it wouldn't be a problem again. But then in saying that I have another buddy who goes through the exact same thing you do when he quits for long periods, so it may just depend on your body.
