Why vote for Barb? Its pretty simple. As you have said yourself McIvor is terrible. McIvor has an early lead and McIvor is the worst option for this city. So how do you do what's best for the city? To me the answer is to vote for the most popular candidate that isn't McIvor.
If Nenshi got up to a convincing third with 20% support I would consider voting for him but if he hasn't made any ground up by election day the risk of putting McIvor into office is not worth voting for a fringe candidate.
As long as Barb as reasonble positions on TOD's, Suberbia, and Transit are reasonable (and we don't know that yet) then I think voting for her would be prudent.
Besides that having a good spokesperson for mayor is important for branding, and representing the city. In these categories Higgens is superior to all of the other candidates.
