This is pretty much true about 99% of all songwriters. Metallica though has some good songs and probably the best metal album of them all.
They should lay off the Dr.Phil these days. Yikes.
As for Nickleback, well, they stink but it's hardly because I'm jealous of them being rich or famous. If that were the case, wouldn't I then hate everyone who is rich and famous? They sure have a lot of staunch defenders though. Good for them I guess but there are plenty of bands that I like that other people hate and I just simply don't care. Nickelback sure seems to bring out the defensive side of people.
I have it on good authority that they sold a lot of guitars in a few small towns in Alberta so that's pretty cool.
