Of all the times to not tangle with the US/Nato this is one of them. Think of all the combat tested troops from A-Stan and Iraq available to join the effort.

If I am remembering correctly, that was part of the effectiveness of the first Iraq war and Desert Storm. At that time there was a large collection of NATO personnel already stationed close by because of cold war tensions.
The speed at which they deployed to Iraq was a fraction of what it would have been had they come from the US.
