Do you use "Frost Blankets"?
They're kind of the consistency of a bounce sheet, but made for covering gardens(4'x40' 10'x7' 5'5').
I'm not sure how big of hail they could withstand, but, you can leave them on for a week without harming the plants (unless it got scorching hot underneath, I guess). I saved my peppers and tomatillos early this year with them.
I bought them last year at Golden Acre (if that's the one off of Deerfoot & 32nd).
They are really helpful in early spring, as they are supposed to keep the temp up to 8C warmer underneath, yet still allow like 90% of the UV's through.
