I wouldn't consider the Hard drive size as a factor at all. If hard drive space turns out to be an issue, external drives are dirt cheap and can be added afterwards with no problems.
If $1100 is too much, maybe you should consider a PC. You could get a brand new entry level Dell for $600 that will probably meet or beat that used Mac in most technical specs. Add in a little extra for a video card if thats your thing.
