Did you lived in a skyscraper as a kid? If the answer is no, then of course you didn't. Same as I was never pissing around with farm equipment as a kid. It doesn't mean I knew better; just the opportunity for accident never came up.
I am deathly afraid of highs, and when I first moved into a high-rise I had some issues even stepping onto the balcony. But as the months wore on I got braver, and would even lean against the railing. Obviously we don't know exactly what happened here, but often its easy to "forget" just how high up you are and what the dangers are.
I know we often feel we have to say "how could this happen", and want to assign blame. But this could just be an accident.
