On its own the program is good, but coupled with some reading to help you better understand the gramatical rules behind the language the program is excellent.
I found myself getting confused at some points so I grabbed French For Dummies. It has really helped clear up a lot of the questions I had. I also work with a guy from France so I get to practice with him. But a lot of the words and phrases he would use are not the same I would find a French Canadian speaking, so I had to learn that as well. Mainly the formal and informal side of it.
I also grabbed a standard French/English dictionary to help me better understand some of the words the program was throwing at me. I was able to just quickly flip to the word and then proceed with the program without any long pauses.
Basically if you use the program as a stand alone tool you will most likely not enjoy it or get the full benefits. If you do some research on your own, including watching French TV, listening to French music, reading French kids books to start etc.. you will find the program works great as the core of your learning experience.
Edit: sorry replace French with Spanish and German obviously, I was just speaking from my own experience.
