I'm thinking of putting my starting goalie on the bench and finding a vet - given that goaltending is so important and that my guy really does have something special in terms of his avg goaltending quality (he gains faster than anyone on my team for any skill, so even if it isn't 99, it is very high).

Definitely good idea. You should look for high attribute, low AvQ goalie that you can get for under 150 000. I say low AvQ because you have a good prospect already, and the lower the goalies quality, the lower the price will be. So he will be good for you for a season or two and then your present goalie can take over the starting position. I might be able to part with my back-up, he has 74 goaltending right now.
