As to the guy misrepresenting himself, that's what happens when cognitive dissonance runs amok.

EDIT: If you keep telling a story enough times, eventually you will believe it yourself and will even change your memory of events.

See for me, what I absolutely can't stand about that comic, or all of the other ones is the impression that the guy can kneel down and pray, and suddenly his whole life is changed for the 'better.'

I've always felt that its a process.

Those comics make it seem like the guy prayed, and suddenly he's not going to look at porn again, ever.
