I knew a lot of teachers who would give extra bonus marks on tests or extra projects you could do to make up an extra 5 or 10% in grade if you wanted to. So you could do 110% if you wanted to. They were also a lot less strict in terms of marks where if you were close to the top, you'd often be given the benefit of being averaged up for your effort. Highschool was much more forgiving than university, especially the closeknit atmosphere between teachers and students.
