The truth is, Seattle received Smoak, a decent control-pitcher who may end up as a back of the rotation starter, and two crappy players. If Texas re-signs Lee, it'll look like one hell of a trade. But even if they don't, to only give up a 1B and marginal prospects for an ace is a great move.
Also, the Yankees were quite livid about not getting Lee. They thought they had a deal worked out, but Seattle decided they liked the Texas package better.
