You can't compare apples to oranges. All gangs are a problem no matter how big they are compared to other gangs in other countries.

As B&A just said, gangs exist in the USA and Mexico because of economic necessity.
The gang problem there is so bad because the general public are often collateral damage.
The Mexican gang problem has gotten really bad because of the recession, which shrank their available market. They're fighting over smaller pieces of the pie now.
In regards to Calgary, we don't really have the economic problems that force the creation of formidable gang activity. FOB/FOB Killers are just a bunch of posers.
