But from what I have read from profootballtalk the money is not free if there is no season. They get the money up front and they can use it for operating costs but at the end of the season if there was no NFL football then they have to pay it back either at the end of the season or at the end of the contract.
The owners have the early leverage but if the above is try the PA has the leverage the longer the lockout goes (of course the longer it goes the higher the probability of them not getting paid for a whole year is.
